PT-141, also called bremelanotide, is a synthetic cyclic peptide built from seven amino acids and classed as a melanocortin-receptor agonist. It is best known in research for how it engages the MC4R and MC3R receptors, and being a ring-shaped (cyclic) peptide is what sets its structure apart.
It also has a solid research base, with work exploring how it acts on melanocortin signaling pathways (Molinoff et al., 2003). That makes it a common probe compound in receptor-pharmacology studies.
Research Applications
- Melanocortin-receptor signaling research
- MC4R and MC3R receptor studies
- GPCR structure-activity research
