SKU: gonadorelin-2-mg Category:

Gonadorelin is a lab-made copy of GnRH, the 10-amino-acid brain hormone that starts the whole reproductive hormone chain. It tells the pituitary to release LH and FSH, the two signals that drive testosterone and estrogen production, which is why it is the standard tool in hormone-axis and fertility research.

Gonadorelin is studied for how the timing of the GnRH signal controls the axis: classic work showed that pulsed GnRH keeps LH and FSH flowing while a constant signal shuts them down (Belchetz et al., 1978, Science).

Research Applications

  • Studied in hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis models
  • Relevant in research on LH and FSH release and testosterone signalling
  • Examined in GnRH receptor and pulsatility studies
  • Applied in receptor desensitization and feedback work

Supplied as a lyophilized powder for stability.

Scientific Background

Gonadotropin-releasing hormone was isolated and sequenced from porcine hypothalami in 1971, work that identified the decapeptide pGlu-His-Trp-Ser-Tyr-Gly-Leu-Arg-Pro-Gly-NH2 as the master regulator of pituitary gonadotropin release. Gonadorelin is the synthetic form of that native sequence, the reference molecule against which GnRH analogues are compared.

A central discovery in this field is that the pituitary reads GnRH as a rhythm rather than a level. Pulsatile delivery in primate models maintains LH and FSH secretion, whereas continuous exposure desensitizes gonadotropes and lowers output. Pulse frequency and amplitude further shape the ratio of LH to FSH released.

Because it carries the exact native sequence, gonadorelin is used to characterise GnRH receptor pharmacology, gonadotrope signalling cascades, and the feedback loops of the hypothalamic-pituitary-gonadal axis in experimental systems.
